Owning Resident EvilThread posted by Bismarck on 03-28-2009, 08:25 AM Just beat Resident Evil 5 on Xbox 360. Was it worth the wait? RE5 veered away from the "survival horror" genre it's been well established for, and took the action-adventure route. Was Resident Evil less scary this time around? RE5 still has the requisite zombie mobs and amorphous blob boss fights, but yes, it does start to take on a more action-adventure-shooter feel. The fact that the "zombies" are able to carry guns and ride motorcycles make you think you are fighting real people instead of mindless undead. However, what really down-graded the scariness of the game, IMO, is that you are able to play co-op with someone else. Why, are zombie-busters not allowed to seek the aid of their friends? What made the previous RE games scary, in fact what makes most horror games scary, is the feeling of being totally alone against a horde of enemies. It really brings to fore the desperation of the situation. Having someone else there to help you automatically takes that away.
