Post OnLive: The End of Console Gaming?

Are we finally getting a peek into the future of console gaming? The groundbreaking OnLive is set to be released this summer...threatening a blanket of winter over current consoles. This new technology is as compact as a DS, plugs straight to your TV, and can stream games via internet. No need for CDs, no need for downloads or installations. PC users won't be left out either, as this can also hook up to your system. Also, there will be no need for any high-end PC specs.

This revolutionary streaming service is very dependent on your internet connection though. So you'll have to make sure you have top of the line broadband.

In any case, though this groundbreaking tech goody might be Christmas' hottest commodity, I don't think console fans will be jumping it anytime soon. Especially Wii aficionados, as they're already enjoying the benefits of the revolutionary gameplay that Nintendo introduced.

So, is the console era ending?

A "console" the size of a DS with all those abilitys? How will you play games, also for the many people that cant afford this consoles will boom and sales will raise not fall. I don't think this will get very far not in this time period. Give it about 2 years and we will see

Well, I saw about this a few months ago, everyone was claiming it was going to be the new thing that everyone wanted, then suddenly everything went quite and I never heard of it since.

I think it's a great thing really, providing that it actually works. We will see what the future holds for us gamers.

I really dont think this is the future. Streaming games, as you have mentioned, is dependent on fast internet connection. This will provide problems for many people.

I agree with Dot. I have the fastest internet connection that my ISP offers, and I doubt mine would be good enough for this.
