Tiesto becomes DJ Hero ambassador

Superstar turntablist Tiesto is the official European ambassador for DJ Hero 2, Activision's announced.

The news came via a press conference this morning in Ibiza, where the Dutch mix master took to the stage to discuss his role in the game.

In addition to appearing as a playable character in the sequel and contributing three tracks, Tiesto created two remixes for the game, featuring Adamski's Killer and Lady Gaga's Bad Romance.

Tiesto's involvement as a spokesperson is part of developer FreeStyleGames' attempt to make DJ Hero 2 more Euro-friendly, with a wider selection of pop and dance tracks than the original's hiphop-heavy tracklisting.

Various FreeStyle staffers, including creative director Jamie Jackson and in-house scratch DJ Blakey, demoed final code of the sequel on stage, walking press through the process of creating mixes for the game and showing off new multiplayer features.

"It's every child's dream to actually be in a video game," said Tiesto, who admitted to being a big FIFA fan.

"Europe has always been at the forefront of new music and club culture, and it's a great feeling to be a part of something that will bring the excitement of the world's biggest clubs into people's homes."

The event is running all day and Eurogamer will be chatting to Tiesto and FreeStyle later on, just as soon as we've had another five minutes by the pool.

DJ Hero 2 launches in Europe on 22nd October.

Red Dead Redemption being made into movie!

With video game to movie adaptations coming out of the wood work there is no surprise in hearing all the chatter about the hit Rockstar game Red Dead Redemption may be coming to a theatre near you. I just never would have thought a star with such a big name would be attached to it. Brad Pitt may have been tapped to play the gritty lead character John Marston!

Yup, according to ShowbizSpy, Pitt has been given first refusal on Marston�s role. If the movie follows the plot of the game, it�d see Pitt embarking on a sweeping hunt for atonement (not to mention his captured wife and son) across the embryonic American West.

Now don't get me wrong the idea seems fantastic but Hollywood and the gaming industry have tried time and time again to horrific results. Does anyone remember the Mario Bros movie or even Mortal Kombat (that movie is campy shit at best) There has even been talk over the years to bring many popular video games into movies, including Halo, Bioshock, and even PAC-Man but none of those projects have even gotten close to filming and who is the jack ass that thought a PAC- Man movie would even work?

There has yet to be one single solitary movie adapted from a game that has actually been any good. But if any game adaptation had the potential to break that trend Red Dead Redemption is it. It's a classic western tale and who doesn't love a good western? Maybe Pitt�s star power and acting skills will not only make this movie good but will bring even more star power to the cast! I think this one could turn out great if the stars align.

Donkey Kong versus Pac-man

In the red corner we have the iconic giant, hairy, girlfriend stealing, barrel throwing monster that is Donkey Kong and in the blue corner we have power pill popping, ghost busting, pie shapped Pac-Man. Who will be the winner of this heavy weight contest. Lets have a look at the form........... Donkey Kong was created by Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo back in 1981. To say this game saved Nintendo is no understatement. Previous to this game Nintendo were a very much hit or miss company and Donkey Kong was the catalyst in many aspects of gaming. This smashed records left, right and centre won many awards such as first use of visual storytelling in a video game. Donkey Kong has stood the test of time by having many incarnations and also evoloving into other gaming classics (ie. Donkey Kong Country). Donkey Kong has such worldwide appeal that he is not just confined to his own game but puts in guest appearances in such games as Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros Melee and has even been in the audience in the Punch Out series. The crown of the greatest DK player is one os discussion with both Billy Mitchell and Steve Wiebe staking there claim, as per the classic documentary film The King of Kong..
Next we have Pac-man created by Namco and first released May 1980 in Japan. Pac-man first started out as Puck-man but that name soon was dropeed after games cabinets were vandalised and the name amended to an offensive word. One of the biggest draws for Pac-man was that it attracted female game players as well as male which was unheard of back in the day. Not only our hero Pac-man gain global fame so did the baddies in the the game. The four ghosts known in the gaming community as Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde were plastered everywhere from posters to T-shirts and still have a massive retro following. Again Pac-man spawned many spins-offs throughout the years and also had its own TV series. The prefect game of Pac-man can be achieved by not losing a life and completing the 255 levels, then on level 256 the infamous split screen appears which makes it impossible to complete. The Pac-man crown is one that everyone wants but once again the title gose to the retro king Billy Mitchell.

So who is the winner....................... The winner on a narrow split decision on points is................................................ ...................................

Donkey Kong - This was a very tight decision both games immense and both characters iconic. Donkey Kong still lives on today and also spawned Jumpman who went on to be Mario. The game play was more complex and more variety on the levels. The documentary says King of Kong we should really say Kong is King

Supermarket Wars with FIFA 11

I don't know if anyone has heard anything but do we think there will be supermarket price wars with FIFA again this year. If I remeber correctly that opening weekend you could get it dirt cheap from ASDA or Tescos. I am gutted that I am away until 3rd Oct so won't be able to pick this up until I come back.

Sony details Sept/Oct PS Plus content

Sony has released details of September and October's PlayStation Plus content.

If you're signed up to the service already then treats available between now and 5th October include the full season of Sam & Max: Devil's Playground, a full game trial for Warhawk and a copy of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee.

Then between 6th October and 2nd November you can look forward to a copy of Super Street Fighter II HD Remix, Syphon Filter for PSone and a full game trial of Gravity Crash, among other trinkets.

GTA on iPad next week

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars HD will be released for iPad next Thursday, 9th September.

The game will cost �5.99.

High-definition visuals are the key feature, hence the name. But there are now over 50 missions, "countless" side activities and the chance to customise your in-game soundtrack with your iTunes library of Britney songs.

Chinatown Wars adopts an old-style, top-down GTA presentation, but adds various new-age touches Rockstar has picked up over the years. The result is a superb game.

Rockstar released the DS version of GTA: Chinatown Wars first in early 2009, followed by a PSP conversion and eventually an iPhone game.

iPhone Game Center due next week

Steve Jobs has claimed iPod Touch is "the number one portable games player in the world", outlining Apple's growing ambitions in the games space with new hardware, an iOS update, an Unreal Engine 3 demo and Game Center reveal during a press conference.

Speaking on stage in San Francisco � streamed live online and broadcast at a separate Apple event in central London which Eurogamer attended � Jobs announced that "the biggest change in the iPod line ever" and the new operating system update would be released next week.

The new iPod Touch, noticeably slimmer than the current model, adds iPhone 4's retina display and gyroscope, plus a front-mounted camera and HD video capture. The device will be available in 8Gb, 32Gb and 64Gb versions, priced at �189, �249 and �329 respectively.

Game Center � a new feature launching with iOS 4.1 � is Apple's answer to Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. Jobs said it was "all about multiplayer games", and walked the audience through a demo of its social features. These include leaderboards, matchmaking and achievements.

Taking a swipe at Apple's gaming rivals, Jobs boasted that 1.5 billion "games and entertainment" titles had been sold via App Store to date - claiming iPod Touch "outsells Nintendo and Sony handhelds combined".

A TV ad for the new model Touch confirmed the company's focus, with the first two-thirds of it focused entirely on gaming.

Epic President Mike Capps was then invited on stage to demo Project Sword � an impressive-looking Unreal Engine 3-powered RPG with a visual style reminiscent of Lionhead's Fable. Jobs confirmed the title for a "holiday" release on iPod, iPhone and iPad.

A demo of the tech, Epic Citadel, was released by Epic last night for iPhone and iPad as a free download.

Jobs, whose session wrapped with a surprise three-song acoustic performance from Coldplay's Chris Martin and featured a video message from Lady Gaga, also teased iOS 4.2, bringing Game Center, multitasking and other iOS 4.1 features to the iPad this November.

After the session, Eurogamer went hands-on with the new iPod Touch, with iOS 4.1 and Game Center installed, but the demo units did not allow connection to the latter's servers. In the absence of a fully-functioning version of Apple's "social gaming network", reps focused on showing off iPod Touch's gyro-functionality in Gameloft's Halo-esque Nova,

An Apple spokesperson said the company was not prepared to add anything on Game Center beyond what was in the conference.

Elsewhere, Jobs announced updates to the iPod Shuffle and Nano lines, plus a new version of the company's Apple TV platform.

New consoles can pop up if they like....but new consoles only bring more graphical playback power. Gamers tend to thing, a new console means some new technology that's going to explode games.... Wrong.

A new console most like is a fast computer. With more computing power, developers are apply to apply more detail to a Mesh (3D model) and textures; which means better visuals in a game.

Given what you see in todays video games, which have become graphic dependent (sad), I don't really see graphics getting any better. I feel Game Dev Companies will have to start putting more into "Fun Factor" sooner or later...because they're maxing out on graphics.

I already know the PS4 will surface. When it does, it will have better specs, which means more Polygons per Mesh and better textures. That's why games now are not better than games in the past. Sure they look outstanding...but "Fun Factor" wise...old games win.

Since graphics sell games....that's what Companies now are bidding on. Can't wait for this to max itself out....wonder what they'll do when that happens. :f_laugh:

Microsoft Reveals New 360 Controller With Transforming D-Pad

The Xbox 360 controller gets a little more fighter friendly later this year, with a new version featuring a transforming d-pad and monochrome buttons hitting stores on November 9. So what's a transforming d-pad?

As Major Nelson demonstrates in the video below, users can change the new Xbox 360 controller's directional pad from a flat surface to an actual raised d-pad with a twist of the base. One second it's flat, the next it's beautifully raised, perfect for performing quarter-circles until the cows come home.

Plus it's got those lovely grey buttons, which should be extremely confusing to anyone that's memorized the normal controller's four colors instead of the letters, like me.

But hey, raised d-pad!

The new controller will be packaged exclusively with the new Play & Charge kits Microsoft is releasing on November 9. The package will retail for $64.99.

Gaze into the shiny face of this wondrous new thing and forget all about that $10 Xbox Live price hike.
